Ski Trip to Italy
On the 15th of February sixty students and six teachers headed off to Italy. We arrived in Milan after 7.30pm and got a coach the rest of the way to our resort, Hotel Club Funivia in Aprica. The coach was lovely with a G.P.S. system on board and I will never forget the cheer as Aprica came onto the screen. We were all wrecked after the trip and we were all moaning and groaning but we were lucky, a group from Bristol had spent twenty-six hours travelling.
The next morning we woke up at 7:30 am and went down for breakfast. Then we got the bus to the slopes andhad our first ski lesson. We learned the snowplough and, after lunch, we learned some turns. Everyday that week we went to Bar Thomas for pizza. The next day we went up the baby lift and went down slowly, perfecting our turns. Later in the week we progressed to higher slopes and became more confident.
Then, after days of practice, we were brought up in the gondolas and we went down Blue Run IC. I was doing very well for my first time until I came across some black ice and fell down taking three other students with me. On Saturday we were allowed go down blue run in groups of four (so if somebody had an accident, one could get help, one could stay with the person and one could pause.) On the last day we were due to have races but we could not, because it was too dangerous in fresh snow. So we all went to the arcade for the afternoon. We were all presented with certificates at the end and on the 22nd we flew home to Dublin.
1 would like to use this opportunity, on behalf of all the students, to thank Mr O' Byrne, Mr. Shortt, Ms Heduan, Ms Doherty, Mr. Lowry and Mrs. Lowry for organising this excellent trip.
