Ka Hei Ng

Ka Hei Ng 6th Year

I come from Hong Kong. I have lived in Ireland for 6 years and pretty much
enjoyed my whole time here. I first became interested in architecture when I came
to Moyle Park and was faced a decision as to what job I must get after I finish
school. It was a tough decision to make but I thought it out well and I trust
my intuition.

What I like about architecture is that you can design houses and other interesting
buildings. You can use your imagination to design a new and, I hope, original
product. My favourite building is the Louvre Museum in Paris. I am fascinated
by the way in which it merges the old classical style with the new glass pyramid
entrance which was designed by a Chinese born American architect Leoh Ming
Pei. Another building I like is the National Stadium in Beijing built for the last
Olympics and designed by Herzog and de Meuron. I love the shape and
structure of this building.

I'm faced with a great challenge to overcome the points requirements of 540 in
the Leaving Certificate to qualify for architecture in UCD. . I think that Moyle Park
will help me overcome such a challenge and help me get on the right road to
learning and also to design my own buildings. I know that the points requirements
will drop so I'll have a better chance of getting the course. After going to UCD
I would like to go back to Hong Kong to further my bolstering knowledge. I chose
the specific options I study at senior level to help me prepare for the course, like
Physics and Geography. Occasionally I design building plans for some houses
that I have in mind for my future projects.

Moyle Park helped me in my choices for this career and I am grateful for it.
However, I would love to come back to the school, some time in the future, and
tackle some of the design problems: narrow corridors, small class rooms,
leaking roofs and a dull square-shaped building. Or just demolish it completely,
and let me rebuild it from scratch.
