September Showcase
Stephen Callanan 5th Year
I began hurling at the age of 6 after my parents got me interested in the sport.
I kept playing because I thought I was quite good at it and I enjoyed playing.
I got better and better all the time so I never stopped and have now played
hurling for 10 years.I play for Round Towers club in Clondalkin and I am the goalkeeper for the U16.
I also play with the Moyle Park school team with my classmates James Lowry
and Bryan Fields, both in Transistion Year. We train with the school at least once
a week and usually have a match once a week. With my Round Towers club, we got to the final of Under 15s Division 2 last year
but we failed to qualify for the championship - Under 15s and 16s.In the past we have took part in the Championship in the Under 15s and
Under 16s competitions, Féile in the Under 14 competitions, PJ Troy in the
Under 11s and the Camont also in the Under 11s. I have a medal for competing
in each.My trainers are Miss Sharon Jordan in the school and Denis in the Round Towers,
who happens to be my Dad. They are always full of support and encouragement. In the future, I have dreams of playing for the Dublin Seniors hurling team. But for
now, I am very happy with playing for my school and for Round Tower Club.I would encourage anyone interested in hurling to get involved in it because it
is such a fun sport and it is very easy to pick up and learn.
