Wilson Lumumba 6th Year

I started playing football in 2003 when I was nine. I joined a Clondalkin local team
'St Francis'. I had never played with a club before so this was a big step for me. I
played with the club until I was twelve, apart from playing for the local club. I
remember my first training as if it were yesterday. The coach of the team brought
me up, I instantly got a good reaction from the squad. After a few weeks of training
I was on the starting 11 side of it and I've continued playing up to this day. We
finished top of the table that season and that brought us to a better league - "The
Major". That was a great achievement. After one season in our new season we
won it bringing us to the highest league - "The Premier". We were a team that
was well gelled. Knowing how much I liked football I went on trails for my primary
school team "St Josephs B N S". Making it onto the team we went and got to
the finals of the cup match but unfortunately losing the match. Still I felt a good
achievement in doing that

Entering secondary school I was very excited. I took up so many interests. I took
up many sports such as football with Mr Conway, basketball with Ms Cahalane
and G A A with Mr Roebuck. At the time basketball and G A A were a little bit
difficult knowing I had not even played these sports. But, for me, sports is what I
liked the most. With me impressing the coaches, I got on the starting teams for
all sports, but we didn't make it far in the basketball or football. But we went on
and won the Leinster Cup for G A A. This was a huge achievement, following on
our win we went on to the semi finals of the all Ireland and lost. It just wasn't our
day.

The four years after I came into the school I haven't stopped playing these sports.
In 2009, when I was in 5th year, I was put into the under-19s basketball, coached
by Ms Corscaden and Ms Roche and then in the under-18s G A A coached by Mr
Kenny, while I was still on the under-16 team. The G A A team was very strong
that season with the under-16 squad making it to the semi finals and losing by a
point and the under-19s squad going all the way to the finals and losing. Yet again
I lost another final, This year, I am hoping to win the Leinster league and the
all-Ireland. I think we have a better and stronger squad. We also have a better
side for the football team with two international players and other players
playing in the major and premier of the Dublin District Schoolboy League (the
DDSL).

After I finish my final years in school, I hope to go on to I T in Tallaght and study
Sports Science And Health. Then maybe I will come back to the school and help
out with sport injuries or any injuries in the school. I am still playing football,
though. I am currently playing football throughout the year for Lourdes Celtic F C
alongside a few team mates in school.Throughout my school years I have got
a big interest in many thing. For me sports is my favourite and I will continue to
play till my body gives out.
