October Showcase
Fred McMahon 6th Year
I first started to be interested in golf and pitch and putt when I signed up to
take part in the Community Games. I was fourteen at the time. Even though I
was not very good when I first started playing, I enjoyed the challenge of the game
and wanted to be able to play the game at a very high standard. I soon became
hooked on the game and I loved practicing and working towards a goal.It was not very long before my game got better and I started winning competitions.
I joined the local Pitch'n'Putt club, CPM, and registered with the Pitch'n'Putt Union
of Ireland (PPUI). This allowed me to go to other clubs and play n their opens
and in their competitions. In my first two opens of last year's season I won. All of
my practice sessions looked to have paid off. I finished third in the Inter-Dublin
Strokeplay and I also won a prize at the Glenville Open where I got a nice
hole-in-one in my round. This season has been a very good season for me. I finished 3rd in the
Bagnelstown Scratch club and I qualified for the National Matchplay and
Strokeplay competitions.Last year myself and two other members of CPM joined together to form a team
to enter the Leinster Schools' Pitch'n'Putt Competition. It was hosted at
McDonagh in the Curragh in County Kildare. We were fortunate to win. This
year the same team is defending the title in Seapoint, Termonfeckin in County
Louth on the 18th of October. You can follow our progress by reading my match
reports on the Pitch and Putt page on the school web site. After school I would like to try and improve my golf game. If I think that my golf
game is good enough by then, I might consider playing professional golf. It is
a new challenge. And if not...Well then, I will keep on practicing my game
