January Showcase

Gerard O'Reilly 5th Year

I first started playing rugby at the age of ten. My brother was the one who got me
interested in the game. I joined Barnhall rugby club. The age group I started at
was under 10's and ever sincethen I've been playing the sport in Celbridge.

I worked my way up from under 10's up to under 18's. But my team's first piece
of silverware was in under 14's when we won the Leinster Cup beating New Ross
in the final. Our next piece of silverware came when I was at under 16's. This was
our best season. We won theLeinster League, the Leinster Cup and the All Ireland
League. The season that followed we won the Metro Cup. But at the moment
we are still gunning for more trophies. Recently we won the ten a side Leinster Cup.

I first started playing as a winger, then I moved into the scrum and played as a
hooker. Now I play at scrum half. Over the years I have had a number of
coaches and some have achieved Ireland and Welsh caps. The coach that made
Ireland was the former Toulouse player Trevor Brennan and the coach I have at
the moment, Rob Harrison, played for Wales at youth level.

I have won the merit award at under-14's level and I also recieved a trophy for
winning the all-Ireland and Leinster championships at under-16 level.

I like playing rugby mainly because I enjoy it and because of the lads who are on
the team. I have been playing with them since I first started playing.

That is mainly the story of my rugby achievements so far.
But in the future I hope to
play for Leinster and maybe even Ireland.
