April Showcase

Patrick Kenny 6th Year

I first became interested in soccer when I was about six years of age after
watching World Cup USA in 1994. I joined Crumlin United Football Club when
I was about 10 years old. This was when two of my friends brought me to the trials
as they were with Crumlin already. I made the team and I am still playing for
Crumlin to this day. When I first started with Crumlin we were in the lower league
called the Major League, but we progressed to the top league within two years.

When I came to Moyle Park, I did not start playing for the school team until I was
in third year as I was really concerned about not getting injured for my Crumlin
matches. Some players on the school team I had played against with Crumlin
United so we knew how each other played and that made it easier for the school
team to get together. But what I think the school needs is a qualified manager if
the school is to have any success in this area of sport.

At the present, Crumlin United are one of the best schoolboy teams in Ireland.
After winning the Premier five years in a row and winning the All-Ireland Cup
twice in the last two years, we are on our way to three more finals and are in
a good position to win the Premier League again. With the development of a
new training all-weather pitch, the facilities are top class.

For the future, I will always play football and some day hope to make it as a
professional or even a semi-professional . I would love to play in England or even
here in Ireland i te Eircom League. But I will always want to play football as I
have played for a few years now. I would not know how to get used to
not training during the week.
