Class of 1991 - Twenty Year Reunion
Past pupils from Colaiste Bride and Moyle Park are organising a reunion for the class of 1991. There is a Facebook group for this event entitled Colaiste Bride and Moyle Park class of '91. The event is posted on that page. It will take place in the Laurels Piano Bar on Saturday June 4th at 8.00 p.m.
If any of the teachers from that time would like to attend we would love to see you there!

Tony Annett - Class of 1987
Greetings to everybody at Moyle Park. I entered its name on a whim while surfing the internet, and never expected to come across such an elaborate professional website! It certainly brings back memories and I can see a lot of the old teachers are still around. A little older like all of us! My name is Tony Annett, and I was a student at Moyle Park from 1982-87. I'm now living in Washington DC working for the International Monetary Fund, after getting my first degree at Trinity College and then on to Columbia University in New York for a PhD in economics. If anybody from my time at Moyle Park, student or teacher, reads this and remembers me, please get in touch and let's re-live some old memories!
All the best.

Stephen Archbold - Class of 1996
I have been looking through the Moyle Park website on numerous times and always wanted to put something up on it. I can't believe how time has passed since I last walked out the Moyle Park doors in 1996. I just want to say it was a great experience being part of a fabulous school and superb teachers. The sports facilities were second to none playing Gaelic with the superb Mr Roebuck and also being part of a very successful Badminton team, managed by Eddie O Byrne. I am now a qualified accountant since 2001, thanks to the teachings of Mr J Roebuck. Moyle Park has left some great memories for me and now my nephew is in first year and experiencing all the fun and learning of a great school.
Well done on a brilliant website.

John Bradley- Class of 1985
Totally by accident I came across the site and it certainly brought back memories! Glad to see some of the teachers looking so well.......what's the secret?! Memories came flooding back of the place; discoes in the sports' centre, John Shortt's burgers at lunchtime (please tell me he's stopped doing them!)
And of course the teachers. When I look back I realise what high quality the teaching was ( I'm a teacher myself now in Paris), but special hellos to Conor Kelly, Peter Foody and John Roebuck.
Good luck with the Jubilee!

Despite the grey uniform, with its itchy jumper, annoying shirt, and uncomfortable shoes, despite Mr. Flanagan's 100 lines for not knowing the law of the lever or Miss Murray's penalty sheets for talking, the fear of sitting in Mr. Shortt's office, the boredom of irregular verbs, frustration of not being able to run down the one way corridor in your white runners with no tie, despite the petty taunts and even the persistent bullying you may have got, you will miss this place, no matter how much you hated it. This place has taught you things nowhere else in your life could come close to teaching you. Never forget what you learned here.
Anthony Darley - left in 1993
I came across the MP website while searching the net for info on Clondalkin to show my work mates here in Australia. To my surprise Vinny Keogh had already posted on the site. Vinny was actually in my form class and we played a bit of football together(Vinny, we left in 93). I still have fond memories of Moyle Park including teachers such as Ultan MacGowan (apologies for the spelling, never was good at Irish), Pat Kelly and Pat Slattery. For present students just remember that the leaving cert isn't the be all and end all. I passed my leaving but never went to college, instead I did a FAS course on electronics servicing in Ballyfermot. I achieved a City & Guilds in electronics servicing 1&2 and got a job with Siemens as a computer engineer. I remained in Siemens for 3 years completing my MCSE and C N A. I decided to leave Ireland in 1999 and headed for sunny Sydney, Australia. Currently I am employed as an IT consultant for Telstra (Australia's answer to Eircom). I hope to remain in Australia for the foreseeable future but will return for a holiday soon to meet up with friends, family and a couple of scoops of the black stuff.

Joe Dunne - left 1989
I don't know if all the GREAT CHARACTERS that taught me are still there, but if they are can you say a very fond hello to them and all those I have missed. My name is Joe Dunne and I escaped Moyler in 1989 to play football in England. Still playing for Colchester in Div 2. Some of my class mates were D.Kelly, D.Curren, J.O'Brian, P.Deans, J.Maloney, C.Kenny. Good to see Moyle Park doing so well and thank you for leaving me with great memories.

Peter Ennis - Class of 1975
Hello to all ex Moyler inmates, particularly the class of '75. I see Joe Shepherd has beaten me to the site! I'm back in Ireland after a stint abroad, and now work for TV3 just down the road in Ballymount. Any more survivors out there?
Ian Fallon - (2.3) 1998
Hello there past pupils! I attended Moyle Park 1998-1999 and had a blast as they would say. I am now getting ready for my leaving cert in Hartstown C.S and it seems as though Moyler was so long ago. I remember all the lads and the laugh we used to have especially when Man U did the treble that year! I see Bro. Nicholas is still there, ah me aul tutor. Great to see you are keeping well. Also , I see Clide Delaney is still off his nut and bashin' away at the leavin' . Fair Play. It is so long since I have seen all the lads, nearly 4 years now, and it seems most of the old 2.3, went on to do T.Y . fair play lads! The site is deadly with loads of info and some smashin' pics of the boys. All as innocent as ever! (yeah rite) I would like to thank all of the teachers for my time in Moyler and it is a shame I had to leave after only 12 quick months. Hopefully we will all get a terrific leaving cert this summer and all the T.Y's next year. It is as easy as they say lads. Hope to you all in College, and the best luck for the future . Drop a line to me if you want - falco@esatclear.ie
All the best.
Damian Flood - left in 1995
I left Moyle Park in '95 and took a lot of fond memories from the school with me. None more so than then 5 years playing G A A for Mr Roebuck. I think everyone on his teams enjoyed the cold dark afternoon training sessions, I know I did. A lot of teachers spring to mind too many to mention though. I was in Mr Hartigans form class 1.1 and Mr Foody was year head, but that changed to Mr P Kelly when I was a Senior. I was M C in the show one year which I put my name down for to get out of a class or two. And after all the Technical Drawing classes which I never really liked, I ended up doing you guessed it Technical drawing for 4 years before moving into project management. Anyway it's nice to see the school has this forum for us old timers to post on.
Regards.
Dave Flynn- left in 1985
HIYA. Dave Flynn here. (FLYNNER.) I left Moyler in 1985 with not many qualifications, school life passed me by quite quickly and my last year was spent in the pre-employment course. I have fond memories of some of the teachers: namely Mr Corr for geography (the nicotine machine; R.I.P); Brother Viv (the viv) as the Head; Brother Paidraig for PE (stern git); Mr Flannigan (Flano) for science; and Bro Dominic (the Dom) for Maths. Best memories have to be when the Mill Pond was frozen over in 1982 when we had severe snow. Loads of us were skating on the pond and one lad from 5th year went too far out and fell in. Luckily he was rescued, but it could have been a lot worse. I also remember the massive chestnut tree next to the pond, the smokers favourite haunt. We'd all climb to the top and smoke ourselves silly. Of course another memory is the pre-employment year and all the lads who attended. Those of you who I remember are at the bottom of this contribution. On our very last day in school we took our 'custom VW beetles' out onto the football pitches for a race. On the way back one of the cars tipped onto its side tipping us out resulting in minor injuries. John Giblin, the driver got his foot stuck under the car. We tried to pull him out while petrol poured from the tank. Luckily, we managed and the car never caught fire. The whole school came out to see the drama. Moyle Park, you gave me fond memories and I was always told I'd be a waster. I'm currently a PC engineer (hardware/software) and also work as a freelance graphic designer. I live in London with my wife and my son who is now 9. Thankfully he loves school and his favourite subject is Maths (my worst).
A big Hello and Thank You to the Following people from Moyler: Damian Mc Veigh, Jeffrey Mc Veigh (R.I.P) Darren Fagan, Declan Bailey, Billy Mc Evoy, Jude Steins, Patrick Shevlin, Ciaran Rynne, Alan Mc Grory, Derek Mc Keown, Mr and Mrs Cunniffe for science and english.

Ah, how can one forget the days........ to hear Pat Kelly's roar echoing down the empty corridor 'Oi' ! Or 'Wez ewe ewenifowm?' from John Shortt, or 'Set daaan set daaan NOW eh, eh, bita quiet (then the click of fingers), eh bita quiet' from Conor Kelly, or ' Im not your daddy, this isnt holiday camp, UP WE GET' from the greatest teacher of all time, Mr. Fee. Or to hear the beautiful humming mixed with a bit of whistling from chirpy Bro. Nicolas. To wonder why the hell am I writing this line 100 times compliments of Mr. Flanagan, although knowing that 'the amoeba moves by mean of pseudopods' has stood me in good stead I must say. Anyway, something must have done me good because I own my own business now at the age of 21!
Thanks guys.

I would just like to say hey to Mr Shortt, who did well in teaching maths and his maths got me very far in life. Thanks. I would also like to say a hello to Brother Nicholas I would like to say thanks to my primary school as well as Moyle Park who helped me through the years. I am now 25 with a good life and I have all of the teachers to thank for teaching me their knowledge when they could have been doing something else.

Just a quick note to say great site - good to see Moyle Park is embracing the digital revolution! When I was there we had BBC Micros the size of a small piano! As a past pupil (left 1994), I'd just like to encourage the present body of students to work hard at their studies and to definitely think about applying to college. And this is not some old git saying this I am only 25! Or does that constitute old these days? Anyways I myself went to the Institute of Technology in Tallaght to study IT. I graduated with my bachelor's degree in 1999. College life can be tough - you have to have commitment and passion but you will also have some great times there e.g. parties, memerbership clubs etc. It not only teaches you the course material but also about life, people from different backgrounds and how to carry yourself. Believe me you will have a much better standard of life if you have a college qualification but perhaps, more importantly, think about the enormous sense of achievement and pride in yourself that graduating college can bring.
Well enough out of me, good luck and work hard,
Slan go foill,

David Lennon - Class of 1984
Great to see Moyler with such a good web site. I had some great years at Moyle park and will be forever grateful to all the teachers who helped me achieve a very moderate result in my Leaving cert!
I have just turned 39 years old and find myself more and more recalling my younger years and especially my school days. I left Ireland in Jan of 1987 and have lived in Sydney, Australia ever since. Married with 3 young girls and another on the way. I worked in the Banking industry my whole career until I started my own Finance company some three years ago. Everything is going extremely well. I still miss Dublin something terrible and plan to travel back next year. If anybody remembers me I would love to catch up. A class reunion would be an absolute bonus. Some of the guy's I remember are Gary Owens (best mate), Danny Actin, Daniel Melia, Maurice, Alan McCourt (lunatic), finbar, Alan Downey, all from my class. That's all I can remember at this stage. John Priest was also a great mate however from a different class.
I have fond memories of the following teachers, Ted Donovan, my last form teacher, Aiden Clark (maths), John Short, Brother Viv, Brother "Basil Fawlty", I believe it was me who started that nickname. Mr Shaughnesy (art) excuse the spelling. Miss Ormand, Pat "the rat" scary character. Cannot remember my geography teachers name, think it was John something. He had a beard and was a great guy.
Once again thanks for the memories and if any body out their recalls me please, please get in touch. I can be contacted on david@maccredit.com.au.
Gervase MacCourtI had not been in Moyle Park for over twenty years, so when I visited last week on business, I took the car up the drive to have a look at the college. More buildings but still looks the same, some pupils looking out the window at class wondering who was driving in, could have been me 30 years ago! It brought back very happy memories of myself and the three other MacCourt brothers who all attended ( I think the four of us were there at the same time for a while). In my time, Brother Peter was the head and then Brother Vivian. 'Tomo' or Brother Thomas was very popular with all of us, I remember all of us taking part in a sit down protest when he was not appointed head after Brother Peter left. So much for democracy! Myself and my brother Paul MacCourt were avid anglers and used to visit the Camac before school ( out of bounds during school hours), catch a few trout and put them in our locker till we went home at 3.45pm. If anybody ever wondered what the funny smell was, there's your answer. I would love to see a past pupils list from my year up on the web site. Something like the teachers on the theme of ' what are they doing now?'. As I did not live in Clondalkin, I lost contact with many of them, though I see a fellow classmate, John Curran was elected to the Dail last week. Must be getting old.

Tony MacMahon - Class of 1982
'82, never made it to the leaving cert, got kicked out due to a classic display of "cheap entertainment" - foul words while in detention. My influences were "howler" "jack fagan" & "bassit" to name a few. If you were around in the earlier 80's you'd remember us. We were like the blacks of Moyler, always in trouble, causing lots of problems, everything imaginable. There wasn't a day that went by someone would take a seat in the Viv's office. We were an absolute menace to the school. How could so many nuts from all walks end up in a classroom such as "1e" - "the noisy room." Kelly, "the rat", went mad trying to manage us. Well, fond memory all the same. Made it to the group-cert (just about).
After that I began to take my education seriously. I left Ireland when I was 22, lived in Australia for six years working for IBM (hardware/ software engineer) before returning to Ireland for two years. Worked for a major software company in Dublin before leaving for America. Currently living in New Jersey for the past eleven years, work on Wall St for a major brokerage firm, Oh! "Close call on Sept 11th" (sometimes I think too close) - Manage an IT group of about 70 people. Still single, travel back to Ireland frequently. Life is good, my days at Moyler will always be of fond memories, as my parent would say '"school days are the best days of your life" - how right they were!

Shane McCarthy - Class of 2004.
A poem for Mr Sean Mitchell who died during the first term, 2005.Reborn
Splinters, in my hands of leather
I'm a magician, Cherry Blossom, Red Cedar
A piece of wood, becomes a clock or a toy.
Chisel in his hand, glint in his eye
A tree grows from the roots in the ground
Growing every year. from the minerals all around
A fitting tribute from a man made of wood
As the tree keeps on growing, he can look down from
Above
Watching the students as they pass by
Below
The tree can survive, rain wind or snow
Every September, new faces I'll see,
So come on down and lean on me
REBORN,
Is what I am,
Tell my friends I lived by the motto
Respice Finem
Derek Muldowney - Class of 1983.
Great to see the website and photos. Mr. Foody - looking good boyo. Good to see Aidan Clarke is the underboss. Great memories, and in hindsight a great job done by all (well most anyway) of you. Moyler seems a long way away - I live in Florida and work in motorsports designing and building racetracks. I get back to Clondalkin every year or so, although have not walked up the drive to the school since the day I got my leaving cert results. Anyway good job on the web site. If anyone is around from those days give me a shout.

Roy Nolan - left in 1986.After reading Dave Flynn's e-mail, it brought back some great memories. I had M. Hartigan for English and Flano for science and went on to have him for biology also. A big hello to Brother Nik ( Basil faulty! ) who tried to teach me religion and history, sorry for the dramas Nik. I fell in to the pond in 82. I didn't go all the way under, but enough to frighten the bejapers out of me. My mate Thomas took me home at lunch and tried to dry my trousers, but I still sat through the last three classes dripping wet. I live in Australia now and have been there since 1992. ( Married, three kids, the works! ) Moyler and the rock disco gave me great memories and I hope to catch up with Paddy Mc Dermott ( best mate back then) and Mark Mc Dermott with whom I used to play soccer, using a tennis ball against the back door of the school.

Chris O'Brien - class of 1977
Hi. I am of the class of 1977 and had good fun reading through some of the narratives from different past pupils. My year, for those who can remember, included such greats as Eamon Wolfe for English, John Shortt for Business Org, the great Frank Allen and his great Irish classes, Jim Tully for Maths, Tommy Broughan for History, Mr Corbett for History, Kevin Sherwin for French. I also enjoyed extra English tuition from Brian Ganley when it came close to the exams. Brian went on to be a priest and christened my son Rory in Shruleen parish in 1987. Names like Fran Brannigan, Ken Power, Terry O'Brien, Richard Harney, Fergal Brehany, the great Cleary twins (Jeremy and Derek), who did the college proud in soccer and GAA, James Carr, Kieran O'Reilly, Fenian Downes, Thomas McGovern and so many more who all had a part in shaping how we were to travel ahead in our respective careers. I had the pleasure of meeting Eddie Martin (once vice principal) and thrawled over stories and characters of the past. By far, though ,the best teacher I had must have been Tommy Broughan. His ability to deliver such a vast subject as History was incredible. I hope he is content as a politician as I feel he was much too good for such a post. I remember well, too, Bro. Padraig who, when I was in 1st year, picked me for the soccer final to take up Mick Boner's place as Mick was out sick that day. We won and, better again, I scored from a corner kick, beating the goalie with a drop kick. We all got medals too, including Mick, on his return to school. If there is anyone out there who can throw some of their memories together, I would love to read them. I guess as one grows older you do realise that maybe not all, but a lot of those days were the best or some of the best days. As for me, I'll be looking at 51 this June (2010) and enjoy the company of my wife Orla, son Rory (22 years) and daughter Eimear (17 years). Looking forward to reading further.
Best wishes Chris (Kit) O'Brien from the class of 1977.
Michael O'Brien - left in1976
I am a past pupil of Moyle Park who left in 1976 I was wondering if it would be possible to get a copy of the yearbook for 1976 as I am trying to trace some old classmates. Any assistance you can provide would be greatly appreciated. If you require any more information I can be contacted at obrienmfg@hotmail.com
Darren Okafo - Class of 1990
Just a quick hello to the staff and all my old classmates at Moyler from Kafo. I see Joey Dunne posted a message, great to hear the football career is going well. To the rest of "The Boyiez" from 1990, Taggy, Sharky, Wardy, Ger, Lawernce, Billo, and everyone else who I was lucky enough to spend 5 fun, short years with at Moyler, I hope all is well. I often think back with great fondness of the days spent there Myself, I am currently serving a research Fellowship at St.FX University (I just can't seem to get away from schools!) in Nova Scotia, Canada and I head to Africa in Jan. for a couple of months work/research in international development and alternative education....I'm sure a few teachers will get a laugh out of the fact that I am involved in education at all, given the amount of time I was "missing". It's a great school with a rich tradition and history, and to all the present students, enjoy your time there, because it will be over before you know it....but make sure to keep those teachers on their toes though. To all Moyler lads, past and present, best of luck,
I can be contacted at dokafo@stfx.ca
Joe Rodgers - Class of 1988
It's not an original sentiment I suppose, but yes, I hated the place when I was there, now it hardly seems that bad, well most of it anyway. Most of what was good about it was friends The friends I made at Moyler, I still hang out with. I had a few teachers I liked, and a few I didn't, although most of that feeling has mellowed with age. Johnny Roebuck told me I'd pass Inter cert maths, and boy did I pass. Pity I didn't have you for Leaving Cert Johnny, I would have passed that too no doubt.
Mo Hartigan stands out for me. He commanded attention and respect in his class, and was probably the most succesfull teacher there. He advocated a formula that I wouldn't necessarily agree with (then again I don't have to teach 40 hormone-riddled teenagers) but that worked. He knew the information they needed to pass an exam, and concentrated on that, rather than inspire. The irony here is that he did inspire me. Harto gave me my strange obession with Hugh O'Neill. I remember it from his class, fair play to you Mo, thought you might like to know, I've been to sites at Kinsale, Dungannon, and even the man's grave in a church in Rome (my girlfriend has cursed you on several occasions as I've dragged her around cities on 'romantic' holidays, looking for historical sites.)
Shocko's class was always a goof, and his constant battle of wits with Matt Whelan was the stuff of legend. Have fond memories of Siobhan Carroll's Geography class. I still have a 'Louvre art' book you gave me in school Siobhan, one of these days I'll root it out and return it. Aiden Clarke had great wit, and Pat Kelly was more down-to-earth than he was given credit for. Ah those double religion classes, I remember seeing movies there like 'Whose life is it anyway', 'Raiders of the Lost Ark' and 'History of the World Part 1'. Then there was the rock, murderball, that smelly wing above the secretary's office, nightschool, and God knows what else.
As for me, I've had various jobs since I left. Went to Art College, worked in a record store, became a professional musician for a while (drums) and had a couple of singles in the charts as well as recording an album (I still play), went back to college to study Audio Engineering, got a degree in Media Production and Management from Thames Valley in London, lived for 3 years in the south of France with a software company that allowed me to travel the world. Spent a year in Boston before returning home. I work now as a Systems Engineer for a large financial company in the IT end. Never got married, and as yet no kids.

Joe Sheppard - Class of 1975
Stumbled across your site tonight. Excellent coverage apart from the lack of links to the past history of the school. It would be worthwhile spending some energy in highlighting the schools past on a regular basis. I enjoyed my time there, great memories ( and some not so great). Would it be possible to set up a past pupils message board for the sake of old codgers like myself ? I did my Leaving Cert ( 1st time round) in 1975, Bro Peter Hegarty was head, Nancy O'Connell was secretary and John Shortt tried to teach me Maths and some manners. I have lived in Manchester since 1988 and work for HM Prisons Service. It's interesting how times change, when I was in Moyler Soccer was the big game, followed by Gaelic football, basketball had a small hardcore and Rugby was non existent. Good luck with your endeavours and give my suggestion some thought. I am sure there is an old school photo of 1973 Inter Cert Class in some cupboard within the Walls

A great school, unfortunately my attention span wasn't great at the time. I think that there were good and bad teachers there at the time as with every walk of life but generally it was a positive experience. Special thanks to Conor Kelly who I found always to be helpful and courteous. Would love to hear from some of my old schoolmates: Gary Stafford, Colm Scannel, Ian Lawless, Dave Palmer, Brendan Walshe to name but a few. Thanks for the memories guys.
